I’m Valerio Mezzanotti, an Italian fashion photographer renowned for capturing the true essence of runway shows, designer portraits, and behind-the-scenes moments. My work has been showcased in leading publications such as The New York Times and Vogue, as well as numerous other global media outlets, allowing me to forge collaborations with prestigious magazines and eminent fashion brands worldwide.
In 1996, I graduated from the “Roberto Rossellini” School of Cinematography and Television in Rome and immediately relocated to Paris. I began my career working with ELLE, gaining invaluable experience as a photographer’s assistant and setting the stage for my future accomplishments in the field of fashion photography.
For over two decades, I have been an integral part of The New York Times, providing coverage for fashion weeks in Milan and Paris. My work there is not confined to fashion alone; I have contributed an array of evocative lifestyle stories and portraits, complementing articles by esteemed journalists such as Cathy Horyn, Suzy Menkes, Vanessa Friedman, and Guy Trebay.
In 2010, I made a significant mark on the digital fashion landscape with the launch of NOWFASHION, an innovative online magazine known for real-time runway show photos. As the Creative Director, I led the brand’s strategic vision, utilizing my expertise in photography and digital trends to establish NOWFASHION as a trailblazer in the global fashion media landscape. My efforts have positioned the platform at the forefront of digital innovation in the fashion industry, revolutionizing the way audiences interact with fashion events in real time.
Having spent 25 enriching years abroad, including nearly a decade in Asia and extensive periods in both New York and London, I returned to Rome in 2020. Currently, I frequently work in Milan and Paris, where my photographic style, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and the use of natural lighting, allows me to authentically capture the essence of the fashion world.
Throughout my career, I have partnered with a diverse range of designers, from emerging talents to established fashion houses, contributing to a comprehensive perspective of the ever-evolving fashion landscape. My work is lauded for its ability to showcase the intricate details of garments, express the emotions of the models, and accurately depict the fashion industry’s diverse personalities.
My photography appeals not only to fashion enthusiasts but also to those who appreciate candid, unfiltered insights into the creative world. This realistic approach has earned respect within the industry, and my work continues to inspire photographers and fashion professionals alike. My contributions to revered publications, including The New York Times and Vogue, and my fruitful collaborations with iconic fashion brands, serve as testament to my enduring impact on the global stage.
In 2021, I launched Door11, the world’s largest and most comprehensive fashion show runway image database. This initiative further illustrates my entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to pushing the boundaries within the photography industry. My work serves as a genuine testament to the world’s diverse narratives, cherished by those who value unique, candid insights, and the transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary.
